Playing games on HDTV would be much more fun than on standard TV. Also HD quality output is a must to fully enjoy the games.
PS3,Xbox 360 and WII can output HD quality picture for games.
Above gaming consoles also have advantage of streaming video content from Internet. We can watch movies or TV series using streaming services from Netflix,Blockbuster,Hulu plus, Amazon video and Cinema Now. Remember we still need to subscribe to their services for a low monthly fee or pay per view.
Wii Vs PS3 Vs Xbox (Motion controlled gaming)
For regular gaming consoles (non motion based), the obvious choice would be one of PS3 or Xbox consoles as they have been in the market for a while.
But for motion controlled gaming consoles all three has different mechanisms to handle the motion input. Wii uses a sensor bar that goes on top of TV which can detect movement of Wii remote in the gamer's hand. PS3 uses a camera that can detect movement of the gamer by recognizing the PS3 move controllers (PS3 remote for motion sensing) that has small ball shape lights on top to them. Xbox dropped the idea of controllers and uses just the camera and it directly detects every movement of the gamer.
I have played on all three gaming consoles, not extensively on PS3 and Xbox though (just couple of games). I felt Wii to be much more enjoying than other two when comes to motion controlled gaming. Wii being the first gaming console that came with the idea of 'you are inside the game' and being in the market for a while most of its games are much matured with respect to motion sensing.
On the other hand, even having a better hardware for PS3 and Xbox, their games are not much matured for the hardware they have (atleast to the games that I have played - basic Xbox game and PS3's sports champions game). Gaming companies really need to program much better way that can harness the hardware and use all the movements and deliver a real time game playing.
One big advantage of playing motion sensing games is that you could burn calories. Playing video games is no more about getting glued to your chair and straining your eyes and mind, it is much more fun and healthy as you could lose weight and stay fit.
